How it works & Prices

You’ve got a fascinating life story to share with the world and you've always dreamed of writing your autobiography. But where to start?

Entering the publishing world may seem daunting but it needn’t be.

With the right help, getting your story out there could be one of the best things you’ve ever done.

Our step by step guide explains exactly how the process works.

Writing a book step by step

Once we have agreed to write your book a collaboration agreement is drawn up, setting out the terms of our working relationship.

Each book usually starts with a series of interviews - these can take place either face-to-face or over the phone.

The number of interviews depends on the length of the proposed book but to give a rough idea an 80,000 word memoir will require around 25 hours of interviewing.

The interviews don't have to take place on consecutive days but it helps to get them done within a short time to sketch out the structure of the book.

All interviews are recorded digitally so that your words are faithfully and accurately committed to the page.

Once the interviewing is concluded there may be further research necessary, at the end of which a chapter outline will be presented for approval.

Then writing begins in earnest and you will be sent between three to five chapters a week for amendment and approval.

Once a memoir is complete we can advise on routes to publication. We have strong, established links to leading publishers and agents in the UK.

Prices

The price of writing a book is determined by the length of time it will take to do the work, the interviews needed as well as the research involved. Each book is calculated on an individual basis. No two books are the same, each requiring varying amounts of planning, interviewing, research and editing.

A full length biography (between 60,000-80,000 words) costs between £15,000 - £35,000.

Other editing services are calculated on a case by case basis. If we think your book may have commercial appeal then we may agree to write a proposal to be put to commissioning editors. The price of a non-fiction proposal starts at £3,000.
